COVALENT BONDING: BLOCK #10

Covalent Bonding

Covalent Bond Molecule
A covalent bond is also called a molecular bond. A covalent bond is a chemical bond involving the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when they share electrons, is known as covalent bonding.

When atoms share electrons, the resulting particle is called a molecule. For many molecules, the sharing of electrons allows each atom to attain the equivalent of a full outer shell, corresponding to a stable electronic configuration

ACTIVITY ASSIGNMENT:
1. Watch each of the following videos, writing a summary of each one using your own words to capture the essential concept of each video.
2. Using your book, your written summary from the videos and Google, complete all of Chapter 8, Covalent Bonding, in chapter 8 of the Guided Reading and Study Workbook. Be sure and include the Guided Practice Problems.
